This week I attended a conference in Washington DC made up of a combination of young philanthropists, social reform advocates, non-profit leaders, entrepreneurs, politicians and other general noisemakers for good. I met a young woman there who offered me a surprising bit of truth. Her name is Maggie Duncan.
Maggie graduated from college last year, but has been running her own non-profit for 8 years, serving Native American youth in South Dakota. As we were talking about her path, Maggie mused how passions don't appear overnight.
It struck me how right she is-passions grow over years of learning and understanding, of taking one enthusiastic step at a time, having one exciting experience after another. You don't have to know your passion to know where to go next. Just do the next right thing.
